Flight to Anchorage from
Seattle, arrive by Sunday night.
Monday, Sept 3
Denali, Alaska
After breakfast this morning we値l drive from Anchorage to
Denali. A Denali Park Ranger will tell us about the daring
mountain climbers and the preparation necessary to climb Mt.
Denali. Weather permitting, you値l get your first glimpse of
this magnificent snow covered mountain. We値l arrive in Denali
this evening where we will stay for the next two nights.
Tuesday, Sept 4
Denali, Alaska
An early morning gets us on our way
for the Tundra Wildlife Tour in Denali National Park. You will
have an opportunity to observe the natural behavior of the
grizzly, caribou wolves and red fox as they wander freely over
the vast tundra. See the icy tundra carpeted with mosses,
lichens, wildflowers and low growing shrubs. We return to our
hotel late this afternoon. Tonight we will enjoy delightful
entertainment and dinner at the Alaska Cabin Nite Dinner
Theater.
Wednesday, Sept 5
Fairbanks, Alaska
A beautiful drive north this morning brings us to Fairbanks. We
will be visiting the University of Alaska Museum where you値l
learn all about Alaska and its people. We visit Georgeson
Gardens later. After an lunch, we値l take a relaxing ride down
the Chena River on board the Riverboat Discovery.
Thursday, Sept 6
Glennallen, Alaska
This morning we try are luck at the El Dorado gold mine. Then
we journey south on the Richardson Highway. It was Alaska痴
first road, known to gold seekers in 1889 as the Valdez to Eagle
trail. The Trans-Alaska pipeline will crisscross our route all
the way to Valdez. We値l stop for lunch at Rika痴 Roadhouse,
known for their great homemade soups, baked goods and pies.
Friday, Sept 7
Anchorage, Alaska
We値l have magnificent photo stops at the Worthington Glacier,
Bridal Veil and Horse Tail falls, then back to SR-1 south to
Anchorage.
Saturday, Sept 8
Anchorage,
Alaska
This morning, we will drive to Whittier and board the
Wildlife Cruise of Prince William Sound. This is a great chance
for viewing wildlife such as puffins, bald eagles, sea otters,
sea lions, humpback and killer whales and getting very close to
awesome glaciers. Watch the glaciers as they break off in huge
hunks of blue-gray ice. Back to Anchorage at night.
Sunday, Sept 9
Seattle, or Home
This morning we will do some local
sightseeing then depart from Anchorage to Seattle for our return
flight home with wonderful memories of our Alaska Explorer
vacation.
